CLUB SWIMMING: Sandpoint Sharks break more team records at Chris Engledow Memorial Meet

LEWISTON — Despite unpredictable weather conditions, the Sandpoint Sharks swim team rose to the occasion as they returned to long course action May 15-17 for the Chris Engledow Memorial Meet at Orchards Pool.

Charley-Rain Olpin, Joshua Jackson, Carter Hutchens, and Kate Bracht broke at least one club record or newly established one throughout the three-day meet.

Competing in the girls 12-and-under division, Olpin won the 400 IM (6:10.07), the 1500 free (19:50.48), the 100 free (1:07.70), the 800 free (10:12.29), the 200 free (2:28.31), and the 400 free (4:59.01); was second in the 100 back (1:18.17), the 100 fly (1:21.69), the 50 fly (32.85), and the 50 free (30.71); and was third in the 50 back (38.50) for a total of six golds, four silvers and a bronze.

Competing in the boys 13-14 age division, Jackson won the 200 free (2:12.91); was second in the 400 IM (5:42.28), the 1500 free (19:31.24), the 100 free (1:01.67), the 50 back (34.54), and the 50 free (28.58); and was third in the 800 free (10:01.39), and the 100 back (1:14.59) for a total of one gold, five silvers, and two bronzes.

Competing in the 9-10 girls age division, Bracht won the 200 IM (3:29.00), the 100 back (1:36.41), the 200 free (3:05.46), the 100 breast (1:54.83), the 50 back (43.64), and the 50 free (36.97); was second in the 100 free (1:28.57), and the 50 fly (45.65); and was third in the 50 breast (55.36) for a total of six golds, two silvers and a bronze.

Thomas Travnicek, Connor Schubert, Alivia Storms, Zoey Travnicek and Brylee Garvin also competed for the Sharks.

"I am extremely proud of how the team handled the conditions and competed at such a high level," Sandpoint Sharks head coach Emily Renzini said. "Meets like this are an important opportunity for swimmers to gain valuable long course experience and continue building toward championship season."
