COEUR d’ALENE — The Idaho Transportation Department will begin its annual efforts to perform routine maintenance to bridges across North Idaho following the Memorial holiday weekend, with work continuing through the spring and summer.

Crews will complete repairs such as joint replacement, paving, sealing and structural repairs designed to preserve bridges and extend the life of existing structures. Drivers should expect intermittent lane restrictions, reduced speeds and flagging at various locations across the region as work progresses, a press release said.

This year’s program includes three categories of work zones:

• Long-duration work zones involving more extensive bridge repairs that will remain in place for longer periods and have a greater impact to traffic including areas of the interstate where all traffic will be shifted to one side of the freeway to allow space for crews to work safely. These locations are identified by red dots on the project map.

• Short-duration daytime work zones where crews will perform minor bridge joint repairs and other maintenance activities during daylight hours. Work at each location is expected to last approximately one to three days before crews move to the next site. These locations are shown in yellow on the project map.

• Short-duration nighttime work zones involving similar maintenance activities but performed during nighttime hours to reduce impacts to traffic on Interstate 90. These locations are identified in blue on the project map.
