Loggers shut out Noxon; tie Ronan in weather-shortened Columbia Falls tourney

The Libby Loggers baseball team picked up a shutout win over Noxon before closing the week with a weather-shortened tie and a loss at the Sapa-Johnsrud Invitational.
Tuesday at Columbia Falls, the Loggers fell 13-6, moving their regular season record to 6-11-1 in their inaugural season.
The Loggers tied Ronan 3-3 Saturday, May 16, at Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial Field in Columbia Falls. The game ended because of weather.
Libby opened the scoring in the second inning when Noah Gillespie drove in a run with an RBI single. Ronan answered in the bottom half of the inning on a run-scoring single by Brodee Woll, then took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on an RBI groundout from Everett Lozeau.
The Loggers responded in the fifth. Elijah Foulke lined an RBI single to left field to tie the game, and Tanner Wolfe followed with a run-scoring double to give Libby a 3-2 lead. Ronan tied the game later in the inning when Zander Bennett grounded out to bring in a run.
Bransen Holzer, Foulke and Kale Hall each finished with two hits for Libby.
Libby opened tournament play Friday, May 15, with a 12-5 loss to Corvallis in Whitefish.
The Loggers battled back from an early deficit to tie the game 4-4 in the third inning after Riley Stoltz delivered an RBI single, but Corvallis broke the game open with an eight-run fourth inning. Dalton Cannon led Libby at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with a double.
Earlier in the week, Libby earned a 2-0 win over Noxon on Monday, May 12, in Libby behind a dominant pitching performance from Boe Miles.
Miles threw a complete-game shutout, striking out 14 batters while allowing three hits and two walks.
The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning, when Holzer delivered an RBI triple to break the deadlock. Holzer later scored on a sacrifice fly from Kale Riddle to give Libby a 2-0 lead.
