Range Riders roll past Voyagers for sweep

GREAT FALLS — Call it a clean sweep to start the season.


Logan Beard went 3-for-5 and four different Range Riders drove in a run as Glacier completed a three-game sweep of Great Falls Thursday 8-1 at Voyager Stadium. 


Jake Covey picked up the win on the mound for Glacier (3-0), allowing one run on six hits over six innings of work. 


Jacob Hasty added two innings of no-hit relief, while Jack Maruskin closed out the victory with a scoreless ninth. 


Tommy Rover started things off for the Range Riders with an RBI single in the top of the second. Later in the frame Donovan Ratfield came home on a wild pitch. 


The Voyagers (0-3) found their lone run in the bottom of the second as Ethan Ott hit a solo shot to right field. 


The game stayed 2-1 until the seventh when Joe McLaughlin singled, scoring Kyle Ashworth. 


Next inning Donovan Ratfield reached on an error as Carson Garner scored to make it 4-1. Two more runs came home on a wild pitch and an RBI groundout from Ashworth. 


Glacier capped off the night with a pair of insurance runs in the ninth, highlighted by Jacob Steele’s single to right that scored Beard. 


On Wednesday, Glacier used home runs by Beard and Jake Millan to take a 13-9 decision. 


Ashworth’s RBI double rounded out a three-run sixth inning that put Glacier ahead 6-2. Antonio Barranca made it 6-4 in the bottom of the inning with a double to center. 


Millen then opened the lead to 9-4 with his 3-run shot in the seventh. Next inning he added an RBI single and Steele drove in a pair to make it 12-4. 


Zach Longshore picked up the win after throwing five innings in relief, allowing two runs on two hits and fanning seven batters.
