Daily Inter-Lake | UPDATED 2 hours, 6 minutes AGO
Alice L. Halvorson Potter, 93, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, peacefully entered into the presence of the Lord on May 19, 2026. Alice lived a life marked by faith, kindness, hard work and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
Alice was born on Sept. 17, 1932, to Halvor Halvorson and Amy Henfer in Crosby, North Dakota. She was raised alongside her siblings in Crosby until she was 16 years old, when the family moved to Kalispell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gareth Dean Potter (2012); her sister, Helen and her brother, Harvey.
In 1950, Alice met the love of her life, Dean, in Kalispell, where she worked at the café at the bus depot. After dating for three months, they married on Dec. 30, 1950. They shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a home centered on faith, love, hospitality and caring for others.
She was a devoted homemaker whose home was always warm and welcoming. Alice was especially known for her incredible baking — her pies, cookies and lefse (with the help of Dean) became treasured traditions among family and friends. She also dedicated 42 years to serving the community as a volunteer at the Kalispell Hospital (now Logan Health), including five years as volunteer coordinator, where her compassion and generosity touched countless lives. She loved her time volunteering in the gift shop.
Alice attended Bethel Baptist Church in Kalispell, where her faith remained an important part of her life. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, playing cards and board games, tending to her home, and gathering with the people she loved most. Every Mother's Day, Alice and Janet planted her beautiful flowers. Alice could often be found sitting outside, where she spent hours each day enjoying the view, visiting with neighbors and making calls to keep in contact with her many nieces, nephews and friends.
She is lovingly survived by her children, Janet Leland (Orland) of Kalispell and David Potter (Angela) of The Dalles, Oregon. She was a proud grandmother to Sam Nunnally (Krista), Amanda Moreno (Mike) and Ashley Freels (Carson). Alice also leaves behind her cherished great-grandchildren, Lexi, Sammy, Melina, Ariel and Hazel. She is also survived by her half-brother, Mike Henfer of Kalispell, as well as many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were blessed by knowing her.
Alice will be remembered for her gentle spirit, servant’s heart, and the way she made everyone feel welcome and loved. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the countless memories shared around her table.
A celebration of Alice’s life will be held at Bethel Baptist Church in Kalispell on Friday, May 29, 2026. The viewing will begin at 9 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. A graveside service will be held at Glacier Memorial Gardens at noon, followed by a luncheon at Bethel Baptist Church.
Special thanks to WEL-Life in Kalispell for caring for and loving Alice this past year and to Dr. Gillespie and Abigale Karrow for their care during her CHF journey.
