Ruth Cody Turner-Hengel Barker Dixon (Nov. 23, 1949 – March 26, 2026)

Ruth Dixon, 76, passed away peacefully March 26, 2026. She was a true Coeur d’Alene icon of unparalleled grace, style and legendary work ethic. No matter what name you knew her by, she was known as a friend.

Her professional journey was woven into the city's history, beginning as a server at the historic North Shore during the era of Playland Pier. For 20 years, Ruth was also the heart of the Memorial Ballfield concession stand, where she was a mother to everyone and famously kept her snowcones at $1 so every child could afford a treat. Beyond work, she was a talented artist who crafted a beautiful home and carried herself with royal dignity.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Drexel Turner and Eileen Opal Miller; sister Drexel Love; son-in-law David Krewson; grandson DJ Krewson; and husband Douglas Dixon, with whom she shared a 60-year friendship. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Hengel-Franks Krewson, and grandchild Devin Ruth Krewson.

Guided by the same eagle spirit that watched over her final days, Ruth has joined her ancestors with God in her heart.

Because she was a mother to all, her family announces the spreading of her ashes on The Dike Road-Spokane River, first grassy area, our best Snowcone spot, so that those who loved her may join, or drive by with a loving wave.
