SANDPOINT — The community has created GoFundMe pages for the community residents who were killed and injured in a car accident on Monday.

In one GoFundMe, the funds raised will go toward supporting the family of McCoy “Coy” Jensen and his step-dad, Josh Pilch, who died in an accident on U.S. 95 south of Sagle. Jensen was 18 years old, a member of the Sandpoint High School swimming and tennis teams, active in his church and preparing to graduate from SHS in early June.

Following his graduation, Jensen was planning to leave for a two-year mission in Chile for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“Even during difficult times and the hardest swim practices, Coy still found a way to smile and help others keep going,” the GoFundMe said of Jensen. “He loved with his whole heart, and the light and kindness he shared left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. “

Pilch was a father of eight children and described by the GoFundMe as a man rough around the edges, but full of heart. He was the owner of his own business, operating Pilch Construction and Excavation, in the community for the last 24 years.

“He was genuine to the core: if he cared about you, you knew it, and if he didn’t, he wouldn’t pretend,” GoFundMe campaign organizers said of Pilch. “His passing leaves a tremendous void in the lives of his family, friends and especially the children he loved so deeply.”

At the time of publishing, the GoFundMe had already raised over $33,000 with a goal of raising $100,000. Residents can read more and donate at gofund.me/f602ae37b

A separate GoFundMe has been launched to support the other victims of the crash, Kurt and Franny Hoopse, who were transported to a local hospital. Both Kurt and Franny are facing several life-threatening injuries, according to the GoFundMe.

"Anyone who knows Kurt and Franny knows they are two of the most loving, kind, and selfless people you could ever meet. They would do anything for anyone and have spent their lives helping and caring for others," the GoFundMe said of the couple. "They recently retired and moved to Sandpoint, a place where so much love and kindness from this incredible community is often given and felt."

The funds raised will go toward supporting the family's medical bills, recovery costs and lost wages. The campaign has raised $1,600 and hopes to raise $50,000 in total. Residents can read more and donate at gofund.me/82f167b7d
