Bobcat girls 3rd, boys 4th at Western C

The Superior girls won third place and the boys fourth in team scoring at the Western C divisional track and field meet at MCPS in Missoula Friday and Saturday.

Led by double event winners Maryisa Swope, who claimed the javelin and pole vault, and Ava White, who won both hurdles races, the Lady Cats finished with 66 team points to finish third behind Shields Valley (91) and Manhattan Christian (89) in girls team scoring.

Led by event winners George Hanson, who won the pole vault and the long jump, and Landon Richards, who set a new Western C record of 6-8 on his way to winning the high jump in addition to placing in both hurdles races, the Bobcat boys finished with 49 points, winding up fourth in team scoring behind surprising Hot Springs (93), Drummond (68) and Valley Christian (54) in the race for Western C team honors.

Qualifying Bobcats and Lady Cats will now pack up their track and field gear and head east this week for the State C meet in Laurel.

Continuing her outstanding spring, Swope swept to big wins in the javelin (pitching the spear a personal best 118-1) and the pole vault (clearing 9-6), while White sped to wins in the 100 meter hurdles in 16.06 seconds and the 300s in a personal best 46.08, besides taking second to Swope in the pole vault (8-6) and fifth in the 200 meters.

White also joined Lily Jasper, Karissa Pearce and Mandi Allard to win fourth place points in the 1600 meter relay, and Swope joined, Allard, Pearce and Jasper to win sixth in the 400 meter relay.

Miekolani Ruthford high jumped a career best 4-10 to win third in that venue, Jasper placed fourth in the triple jump (31-7.75), and Pearce sixth in the 800 meters to complete scoring for the Superior girls in the Western C.

In addition to his record-setting high jump win, Richards placed third in the 110 meter hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles.

Amarie Johnson won fourth in the discus and sixth in the shot put, Gannon Quinlan won fifth in the pole vault and sixth in the 100 meters, and Tyler Mellen speared sixth in the

javelin with a personal-best mark of 140 feet, 6 inches to round out team scoring for the Superior boys in the Western C meet.
