Bergland, Orme earn top spots for Whitefish at Western A meet

The Whitefish girls track and field team placed third at the Western A meet last weekend in Frenchtown, behind Hamilton and the host team. The boys finished in seventh place, as Bigfork, Corvallis and Columbia Falls took the top three spots.
The Whitefish girls 4x100 relay team of Mila Maddock, Anna Boysen, Neva Sliman and Hayley Reardon finished in third with a time of 50.12. Corvallis won in 49.18, and Frenchtown took second with 49.93. The Whitefish boys relay took sixth place.
In the 4x400, the girls team clocked 4:09.20 to finish in second place to Hamilton’s 4:04.52. The boys team was third with 3:29.49. Bigfork won with a 3:26.82 and Columbia Falls was second.
Avery Orme earned a first-place finish in the triple jump. Her mark of 36-08 was nearly a foot farther than that of the second-place finisher from Stevensville. Orme also earned seventh place in the long jump and fifth in the 100.
Sophomore standout Ginger Bergland won the 300 hurdles with a time of 44.80. She also finished fourth in the 200, third in the 400, and eighth in the pole vault.
Junior Bulldog Colby Minton finished second in the 400, third in the 200 and fifth in the 100 meters.
In the javelin, Sol Holmquist took second place with a throw of 113-02. Frenchtown's Macey Kay Smith won the event with a throw of 132-00.
Margaret Zonich tied for second place with Columbia Falls’ Peyton Ross in the high jump, clearing 4-10. Laney Holleran of Frenchtown won with a 5-0.
Nola Brown was fourth in the high jump. In the long jump, Oakley Tunison was fourth and Austin Alton was seventh.
Thrower Braylon Dunn finished ninth in the javelin, eighth in the discus, and fifth in the shot put.
Junior Anna Boysen earned fifth place in the 200, sixth place in the 100, and seventh in the 400.
Brooklyn Shoff took home fifth place in the 200 and the 400. Kendal Dye earned third in the 800 and ninth in the 1600

City to pursue grant for railroad overpass on East Second

Class of 2026: Sol Holmquist is a caring competitor
Sports are a big part of senior Sol Holmquist’s life. A two-sport athlete during her high school years, she was a captain on the Whitefish High School track team for two seasons. She is a thrower and got into the sport by watching her older brother and former Bulldog, Talon.
Habitat Flathead moves forward with townhomes on Whitefish Avenue
Habitat for Humanity Flathead Valley will receive funds from the city of Whitefish to purchase two lots on Whitefish Avenue to build a pair of deed-restricted townhomes.
