Gregory Edward Berg was born June 6, 1947, in Spokane, Wash. He was the firstborn to parents Edward and Louise Berg. His brothers, Kevin and Kelly, joined their family in June 1951.

Greg was a brilliant man; he graduated from the University of Idaho and Gonzaga University and had a passion for teaching. He dedicated his life to teaching and mentoring high school students. He most enjoyed his time teaching physics and chemistry, challenging his students to excel. He created a teaching method to get his students to invest and learn. He spent many years coaching and supporting students in Quiz Bowl and taking them to State Championships more than once. The impact of his life’s teaching lives today, and in the future, through the students he mentored. The Christmas cards from past students, Teacher of the Year awards, accolades and acknowledgments he received in his long career are plentiful and a testament to his dedication. He was a master at "Jeopardy" and hosted a weekly "Jeopardy" challenge for the Garden Plaza community.

He fought hard the last six years to survive, with each illness, symptom and surgery, he persevered, wanting to continue living and contributing to the community. Greg passed away May 11, 2026, at The Hospice of North Idaho Schneidmiller House after a short stay.

In addition to the loss of his family, he navigated the tragic passing of his 10-year-old godchild, Ryan; this loss ran deep with long-standing grief. He leaves behind his best friends, Paul Wenig and Dan Selden, along with many others. He was laid to rest at Holy Family Cemetery alongside his mom, dad and brothers. His brilliant stewardship of money will benefit nonprofit organizations locally, most of which are dedicated to Catholic Charities that offer support to families with children.

He was loved and he is missed.
