They do some pretty good golfing down Trestle Creek way, and it seems to travel pretty well too.
Leading a crew of Trestle Creek golfers who have honed and perfected their games at the Mineral County course, St. Regis senior Denver Thomas capped his outstanding Tiger athletic career by capturing third place in the State C golf tournament at Marias Valley in Shelby last week.
Not to be outdone, Superior senior Phin Cataldo also put a punctuation point on his outstanding Bobcat athletic career by winning tenth place in Shelby, giving Mineral County two top ten golfers in the State C.
Also representing the golfing crew nurtured at Trestle Creek, St. Regis freshman Khila Teeters won seventeenth place in the girls State C and Tiger junior Conner Lulis placed 26th individually with the boys.
The St. Regis golf program is guided by head coach Dan Parks and the Superior team is coached by Seth Kuhl, and both teams utilize the beautiful grounds of Trestle Creek to develop talented players.
The top 10 State C finishes by Thomas and Cataldo represent the latest fruits of those labors. Both Thomas, for the St. Regis Tigers, and Cataldo, for the Superior Bobcats, had plenty of other great moments in basketball and in football during careers at their respective Mineral County high schools, many of them against each other. This could be one of the highlights of their friendly rivalry.
Cataldo had won second place at the Western C, also played at the Marias Valley course, the previous week. Thomas had won fourth place at the Western C before improving his placing position at the State C.
Patrick No Runner of Broadus shot amazing rounds of 74 Tuesday and 72 Wednesday to win the boys C individual crown with a 146 total, Grady Dow of Centerville
(74-80 – 154) took second and Thomas (77-80 - 157) third. Cataldo carded 83 and 85 for a 168 total.
Lulis recorded rounds of 90 and 93 for at 183 total and Teeters shot 102 twice for 204 and seventeenth place with the girls.
