Police have arrested the driver who they said crashed into a ground-level apartment, killing an elderly man, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.
Dillon W. Henderson, 41, of Coeur d’Alene, faces charges of vehicular homicide and aggravated driving under the influence.
The charges stem from Tuesday afternoon, when deputies responded to the 8700 block of North Avalanche Road in Hayden, where a full-size truck had crashed into a residence.
Two elderly residents were trapped beneath the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office. One resident, a woman, was transported to Kootenai Health with life-threatening injuries, while the other, a man, died at the scene.
First responders extricated Henderson from the truck and police interviewed him.
The sheriff’s office announced Thursday night that Henderson had been charged and arrested.
“This marks Henderson’s 48th booking into the Kootenai County jail,” a news release said.
Henderson was released from prison the day before the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.
