New Polson business offers fresh grab-and-go meals

Does mango salsa sound good? How about a breakfast burrito, edamame crunch salad or a smashburger bowl? Salmon or barbecued chicken, with rice and veggies?

Then it’s time to visit Thyme to Savor, a new shop located at 1 3rd Ave. W. in Polson.

“I love food; I love cooking,” owner and chef Marsha Russell said. “It absolutely makes my day when someone says, ‘You’ve saved my life.’”

She started the shop about eight weeks ago. First came a trial run with family and friends in February.

“The main thought behind it is a meal-order concept,” Russell said.

The internet has many frozen food meals people can order, such as Forkful or Home Chef, but Russell’s meals are freshly made and local. She shops for the ingredients herself.

“I created a website with all the meals available so people can order it online, pay for it on Thursday and their meals are available the following Tuesday,” Russell said.

She says a lot of people who like to plan ahead use this method, but she also makes extra food and packages it in the cooler for grab-and-go customers.

Russell said she was just sure clients would start asking if she delivered, but surprisingly they all wanted to know about the grab-and-go option. People who work in the downtown area can nab lunch or pick up a ready-made dinner.

It’s also baseball, softball, track and soccer season. One customer told Russell that Thyme to Savor was a “sports mom’s dream.” She understands because she has children in baseball and soccer so “we’re running in a million different directions.”

“I started this business because I started prepping for my own family. I have six children, and it was easier for the kids to just grab and go,” she said.

When the location popped up, Russell said, motioning around the bright room, the cooler full of salads and meals, the work tops and black cabinets, several refrigerators, a stove and a tidy desk, she moved it out of her home and into Polson’s downtown.

Asked about her favorite menu items for May, Russell said, “I don’t make anything I don’t like.”

She especially enjoys the smash burger bowl and the edamame salad. “The dressing is homemade.”

“I do not specifically do health food, and I don’t do macros,” Russell said. She doesn’t use avocado or seed oils, and nothing is deep fried.

Russell tries to have a vegetarian option, a gluten-free option, and a salad on every month’s menu and changes the menu each month.

Many customers are telling Russell to brace herself for summer. Since some snowbirds are back, online traffic has been higher as well as walk-ins. One new customer purchased the mango salsa with her salmon and rice. She came back the next day and bought four large mango salsas and hopes it will be available all summer.

The business is open from 3-6 p.m. Tuesdays (so customers can collect online orders), 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursdays, as well as Friday mornings. “I’ll be here for the Farmers Market,” Russell said.
