Stephen Borden, 77, of Post Falls, our beloved father and grandpa, passed away peacefully May 8, 2026, after a 36-year journey with Parkinson’s disease. A memorial service will be held at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls on Friday, May 29, 2026.

Steve was witty, intelligent, kind-hearted, generous and deeply romantic at heart. Born in 1948 to Walter and Jean Borden, he grew up on Army bases before the family settled in San Diego, Calif. He loved drawing cartoons, surfing with friends, hiking, biking, reading and photography. A talented artist and poet, Steve studied at San Diego State University, UCLA, and Columbia University, where he earned a Master’s in Library Science.

Steve married Jean Allen and had two children. He later married Robin Whitley and later Sandra Schwarty. He built a successful career in banking with Barclays and Bank of America, including a memorable year living in London through an exchange program before settling in Charlotte, N.C. At age 41, he received his Parkinson’s diagnosis.

Later in life, Steve moved west to be near his daughter’s family and eventually settled in Post Falls, Idaho, where he found peace in the beauty of North Idaho and precious time with family.

Steve is survived by his daughter, Alison and husband Jason Box; his son, Evan and wife Melissa Borden; and grandchildren David Box and Emerson Borden.

We will remember Steve for his humor, puns and Santa beard; his love of art, literature, music, Westerns, coffee and fish and chips; his sentimental gifts; and the patience, grace and enormous strength he showed throughout a long and difficult illness. Though his road was challenging, we find comfort and hope in the faith Steve placed in Jesus.

A funeral service will be held Friday, May 29, 2026, at 11 a.m., at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls.
