Mary Jean Dean, beloved partner, mother and friend, passed away at home in Rathdrum, Idaho, on May 24, 2026. Born in Saginaw, Mich., Mary was raised in Florida by her parents and her loving foster parents, Leala and David Thompson.

Mary proudly served in the U.S. Army, a time that took her to Germany and introduced her to her first husband, David Dean, with whom she had two children. After her military service, she moved to northern Idaho to raise her family. At 35, Mary found a beautiful second chance at love with her partner of 26 years, Randy Hughes, and later welcomed her third child.

An avid gardener and excellent cook, Mary cherished caring for her loved ones and anyone in need. She found joy in crossword puzzles, crime dramas and classic television. She loved music, laughter and time with family.

Her loved ones remember her as a fighter who never gave up. Mary battled cancer four times, emerging more resilient each time.

Mary leaves behind her partner, Randy; her first husband, David; her children, Shannon Gentry (and husband), Blaine Dean, Jordan Hughes, and chosen daughter Amber Larson; her brothers, Ricky and Randy Thompson; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
