A man was arrested today after firing a gun during a dispute at a food bank.

Joshua Aaron Cox, of Hayden, was booked on one count of aggravated assault, according to a press release from the Coeur d'Alene Police Department.

Officers responded to the Community Action Partnership Food Bank in the 4100 block of W. Industrial Loop following a report of a shooting about 10:15 this morning.

The investigation determined that a male, later identified as Cox, arrived at the food bank and remained seated in his vehicle in the parking lot. At the time, several vehicles were present in the area.

"A food bank volunteer approached Cox’s vehicle regarding the manner in which it was parked, and a verbal dispute ensued," the release said. "As the confrontation escalated, Cox allegedly produced a firearm and fired a single round at the volunteer while remaining inside his vehicle."

The round did not strike the volunteer, and no injuries were reported.

Following the incident, Cox left the immediate area and contacted law enforcement. Officers subsequently located and detained him.

"Investigators learned that Cox remained inside his vehicle throughout the encounter and had opportunities to leave the area prior to discharging the firearm," the release said.

Cox was arrested and transported to the Kootenai County jail.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Coeur d’Alene Police Department.
