Alberton proved that Halloween is even more fun when an entire town gets involved.

Families enjoyed an evening of Halloween excitement Saturday, Oct. 31 as the community came together for Trunk-or-Treat at the Community Center, a Haunted Library at the Alberton Branch Library and an All-Town Scavenger Hunt that sent families exploring nine participating businesses and community stops throughout town.

The scavenger hunt added a little adventure to the evening. Families traveled from stop to stop, collecting letters at each location before bringing their completed sheets back to the library to claim a prize. It was a fun way to get everyone out and about while introducing youngsters to some of the people and places that make Alberton special.

There was plenty more Halloween entertainment along the way, including decorated vehicle trunks, inflatables, games and, of course, a few spooky surprises at the Haunted Library.

The American Legion joined in with a vehicle, while the local museum, Town Office, fire station, businesses and numerous community volunteers helped make the festivities possible. The celebration marked the first event organized by the newly formed Alberton Community Association (ACA), a nonprofit organization. Blue Cutler, Alberton Branch librarian and ACA board member, said organizers were delighted with the turnout and how everything came together. Perhaps the best treat of the evening wasn't candy at all. It was seeing families, local organizations, businesses and volunteers working together to create an evening of Halloween fun.

If the first ACA event is any indication, Alberton has plenty of community spirit to share, and a pretty good recipe for making Halloween a town-wide celebration! Cutler did say that they have a Christmas event coming up along with a Giving Tree so this newly formed organization is red hot and rolling!
