Bears, princesses, Pikachu, Santa, Spider-Man, vampires, Scooby-Doo, and even a dad wearing a Viking helmet showed up for the Polson Pirate One-Mile Fun Run at 10 a.m. Halloween morning at Linderman Elementary.

An exhilarating way to kick off Halloween festivities, the fun run was free, but donations to support Linderman’s P.E. program were accepted.

Deanna McElwee, P.E. teacher at Linderman, said 175 vampires, princesses and superheroes signed up for the 2026 run held on Linderman’s track. The number is up from last year, probably because it’s Halloween and everybody wears their costume, she said. Also, each participant gets candy when they finish the race.

The P.E. budget doesn’t stretch far enough for 375 students to bat, dribble, kick, run, practice agility, hit shuttlecocks, play softball, play tennis, jump rope, and stay active. So the fun run donations help the school afford new dodgeballs and other good-quality P.E. equipment for the kids.
