A St. Ignatius man, convicted by a Lake County jury on five counts of abusing children, received his sentence in Polson District Court on Oct. 28.

Christopher Michael Sands, 47, was sentenced to the Montana Department of Corrections for 100 years with 75 years suspended on each of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent and one count of sexual abuse of children, to run concurrently to each other.

Judge Molly Owen added a parole restriction of 25 years, meaning he won’t be eligible for parole until he has served 25 years.

He was also sentenced to the DOC for 10 years with all that time suspended on each of two counts of sexual assault. They are to run concurrently to each other, and consecutively to the other three.

The trial for Sands began in Polson District Court on Monday, July 20, and finished with a guilty verdict on all charges the following Tuesday afternoon.

The two victims were minors at the time of the offenses which occurred between October 2015 and June 2017.

Judge Owen gave Sands credit for having already serve 133 days in jail.
