Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 46 minutes AGO
Raymond Randal “Ray” Newbill passed away peacefully Oct. 30, 2026, at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, surrounded by his family and friends, with Jim Morrison and Janis Joplin escorting him on his journey.
Ray was born Aug. 26, 1957, in Yakima, Wash., to Wally and Birdie Newbill. He was an outdoorsman from the time he could walk, fishing on the Lewis River in his childhood hometown of La Center, Wash., and bird hunting with his many beloved dogs. After working as a guide in the Frank Church Wilderness, he became an avid elk and deer hunter in Idaho's mountains. Ray later formed the company Time Frame Construction with his childhood friend. He went on to become a building inspector for the city of Ridgefield and, in retirement, was able to fulfill a lifetime dream of living in Lewiston, Idaho.
Ray is survived by his two sons, Clinton Newbill of Stevenson, Wash., and Chance Newbill (Katie) of Vancouver, Wash. His cherished grandchildren, Ayla, Maverick and Satori Newbill (mother Crystal Bradely), all of Stevenson; his nephew Randy Johnson (Jenni) of Post Falls, Idaho, niece Rebecca Johnson and his sisters; Kim (Dale) Ransier of Hayden, Jill Larsen (Mike) of New Zealand and Victoria Newbill of Vancouver, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wally and Birdie Newbill, and his brother, Patrick Newbill.
A special thank you to Dr. Susan Daugherty Fowler and staff for the care and kindness they provided and the “angels with stethoscopes” from Hospice of North Idaho. A celebration of life will be held in La Center; the date is to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of North Idaho or The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
“Bye for now …”
