MOSCOW — A standout day from Kate Bracht helped the Sandpoint Sharks polish off a sixth-place finish at the Trick or Treat Progressive Invite last week.

Bracht, a 10-year-old, scored 95 points last Wednesday, which was the most of any girl's swimmer in her age group. She scored those points by winning the 100-yard IM (1:22.99), the 50-yard backstroke (38.04), the 50-yard breaststroke (44.33), the 50-yard freestyle (32.76) and finishing fourth in the 50-yard butterfly (40.22).

"Kate had an outstanding meet, taking home the high-point award in the 9–10 age group," Sandpoint Sharks head coach Emily Renzini said. "It seems like every time these kids race, they find a way to surprise us. Their dedication, determination, and willingness to challenge themselves continue to impress us."

Renzini said Charlie Johnson hit a major milestone by earning her first Age Group Regional qualifying in the 50-yard backstroke. Johnson, an 11-year-old, swam a 37.79 final time, good enough for seventh at the meet. Sandpoint Sharks' head coach said that is an incredible accomplishment and something she should be proud of.

In addition to returning stars, the Sharks debuted several swimmers, including Aspen Chapman, Tori Van Volkinburg, Jude Hawkins and Adeline Beck.

"It was exciting to see them step up to the blocks, race with confidence and experience the fun of competition," Renzini said of the team's new swimmers.

Renzini named Gabriel Hawkins the swimmer of the meet for the Sharks. His head coach said the 10-year-old has been with the team for a few years now and is beginning to see the fruits of his labor.

"He’s winning his heats, avoiding disqualifications, and really starting to see all his hard work pay off," Renzini said. "It was amazing to watch his progress, and he was truly the swimmer of the meet!"

Renzini added that she and her assistant, Coach Kristine, couldn't be prouder of the 15 swimmers who competed at the meet.

"We are excited to see what these Sharks accomplish next," Renzini said.
