Chad Roy Kimball, 48, of Naples, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home on October 15, 2026, surrounded by those who loved him.

Born March 3, 1978, in Sandpoint to Clint and Mary Kimball, Chad spent much of his childhood in Boundary County alongside his younger sister, Cindi. He learned from both parents through everyday life at home and their family’s heavy construction business. Time with his mother included gardening, canning, raising animals, and 4-H, while working alongside his father introduced him to equipment operation and repairs from an early age. Those experiences helped develop his resourcefulness, work ethic, and remarkable practical skills. He became an accomplished excavator operator with ability well beyond his years. He often recalled holidays, shared vacations, and trips to the Oregon coast with his aunts, uncles, and cousins—memories he treasured throughout his life.

Chad attended Naples Elementary and graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1996. He attended Idaho State University in Pocatello and later the University of Idaho in Moscow, where he lived with Cindi. In 2003, during a weekend gathering in Moscow, he reconnected with Laura Neumeyer, also from Bonners Ferry. Their connection was immediate and undeniable. They made their home in Hayden, where they started and built a landscaping business together, and married on September 3, 2004, surrounded by close friends and family in Las Vegas.

They returned to Boundary County in 2005 and designed and built their Naples home, serving as their own general contractors and doing much of the construction themselves. Chad took great pride in that home and the life they built there. In 2009, they purchased Naples General Store, which they operated until 2025. All three children grew up in the store and eventually worked alongside them, learning firsthand about running a business and caring for a community. Customers became friends, and many became extended family.

Chad’s greatest pride was his three children, Peyton, Sydni, and Rylie. He loved being their dad—teaching them, encouraging them, making them laugh, and being someone they could always count on. Together, he and Laura raised an exceptionally close family whose favorite times were often simply those spent together. Annual trips to Round Lake and many vacations to the Oregon coast became treasured traditions, giving him opportunities to share his love of fishing and places that held fond memories from his own childhood. He supported their interests, showed up for their activities, and served as a 4-H swine leader, sharing his time and experience with his children and others. As the children grew, their closeness deepened into friendships he cherished. He took pride in the people his children were becoming and loved their company as much as he loved being their father.

Fishing was a lifelong passion, from creeks and lakes to the ocean, and he loved taking friends and family out on the water. Golfing, hunting, and gardening offered more opportunities to spend time with those he loved. Growing food together was also a way to teach his children self-sufficiency. The family’s shop was a gathering place for projects, parties, and conversations that could last for hours.

Exceptionally intelligent and endlessly curious, Chad was the person friends and family turned to when something needed researching, understanding, or figuring out. He loved learning, could turn his hand to almost anything, and took pride in doing things well. His confidence came with the humility to ask questions and learn from someone who knew more.

He enjoyed hearing other perspectives and could happily spend hours discussing an idea or debating a point. Those closest to him knew his stubborn streak and sometimes enjoyed getting him going. His quick wit, goofy humor, and genuine interest in people made those conversations memorable. Whether helping with any number of projects in the shop or making time for a friend who needed him, Chad valued being useful, dependable, and present. He wanted the people he loved to know they mattered.

Chad is survived by Laura, his wife of many years and eternal life partner, and their children, Peyton, Sydni, and Rylie. He is also survived by his parents, Clint and Mary Kimball, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Cindi, and other loved family members.

He will be deeply missed, and the impact he had on so many lives will never be forgotten. His family carries forward the things he taught them, the laughter they shared, and the certainty of his love.

A Celebration of Chad’s life will be held Saturday, November 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Exhibit Hall at the Fairgrounds. A reception will follow. Guests are invited to write a favorite memory of Chad on cards provided for a family memory album. The stories shared with us have meant so much, and we would love to hear more.
