David Stamation, 61
Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 45 minutes AGO
David Stamation passed away peacefully in his master bedroom in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Thursday, October 22, 2026, after a five-year journey with multiple myeloma. He was 61 years old.
David was born on May 31, 1965, in Hayward, California, to Chris and Hope Stamation. David’s wanderlust began at 17, as a crew member on a trawler that sailed across the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii. He lived and worked in Japan for 2 years teaching English.
He graduated from Cal Poly and began working in Silicon Valley in high tech. David was never afraid to recreate himself, and over the years he was an insurance agent, corporate risk manager, tech professional, a blogger, a traveler, and a Safeway produce manager.
After spending a year traveling the United States, he sold all of his belongings in 2008 and set off in a 1986 Land Cruiser to drive the Americas, from San Francisco to Ushuaia. He traveled through Latin America for almost three years and spent two years living in the Netherlands before landing in Sandpoint, ID. In 2023 he completed the Pan-American Highway, driving from Sandpoint to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska with his wife, Cynthia Stamation.
The last career of his life, he said, was the most fulfilling. As an executive life coach and co-owner of Legacy Life Consulting, David loved witnessing the growth of his clients and supporting them along the way.
David said he had four C's that were his North Star in life: Cynthia, Cars, Clients, and Community. Cynthia was thrilled that she made the top of the list, before cars. Together they shared a life full of food, adventure and love.
David had a love for race cars, driving at the racetrack, and going fast. Clients brought him the most fulfilling career of his life. And community was the men and friends he met through the Sandpoint men's group, who gathered every Wednesday with him for 12 years. That circle deepened who he was and expanded his heart wide open.
David was married three times, and whenever anybody asked, he said, "I'm not afraid to take risks with love, I have a lot of love to give." When he proposed to Cynthia, he called her his “last wife.”
David's mantra was "I douse the world with my big heart," and he did. He lived a big and full life and said yes to life. He encouraged himself, and encouraged others, to live big, go big, dream big, and love big.
He is survived by his last wife, Cynthia Stamation, and their cat, Oso Negro.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 17, 2027, at the Marigold Bistro Atrium, 414 Church Ave., Sandpoint, Idaho.
