CSKT Fisheries | Lake County Leader | UPDATED 5 days, 20 hours AGO
An overall total of 5,632 lake trout have been turned in to-date during Fall Mack Days. The nine-week fishing event on Flathead Lake is sponsored by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and continues through Nov. 8.
Fishermen and women come from all over hoping to catch the $10,000 fish, which has been caught just three times since this competition began in 2002. There are also tagged fish with values from $100-$5,000.
Eight tagged fish were caught in the first three weeks, worth a combined total of over $1,000.
Larry Karper is leading in the smallest fish category with a lake trout measuring 144mm; Devon Bukowski also turned in a small fish measuring 160mm.
There have been no large fish turned in yet for the largest fish competition.
Top anglers last week are Terry Krogstad with 742, Devon Bukowski with 371, Larry Karper with 349, Jack Kirkland with 342, Patrick Casey with 326, Mike Coyler with 326, Clint Speer with 322, David Kelch with 320, Richard Kreis with 305 and Mike Benson with 280.
Laurie Kreis is leading the lady anglers with 166, followed by Julie Perkins with 122, Shaunda Albert with 113, and Angie Marrow with 48 lake trout entries. Lincoln Gauci is leading the youth with 21; Carter Lindsay is second with 4 and third place is Royce Couture with 3.
This weekend we had a happy accident that resulted in two drawings: one for the catch from Friday and Saturday, and one for Sunday's catch.
Luke Pickens won $200 and Terry Krogstad and Mike Benson each won $100 Friday and Saturday; Sunday drawing winners were Bob Stewart, $200, and Bob Church and David Kelch, $100 each.
Entries continue to be taken until the last day of the event. Fish one day or several days. Every entry earns anglers a chance to win in the lottery drawing. Check out the entry page, fish ID, fishing tips and more at www.mackdays.com. For more information, contact Joe Santos at [email protected].
