The Montana Watercolor Society's 44th annual juried art exhibition, “Watermedia 2026,” opens at Glacier Art Museum with a preview reception on Oct. 2.

This year’s show features 50 paintings created within the last two years and was selected by judge and professional watercolorist Stan Miller of Spokane, Washington. Miller selected the winners from more than 165 entries from artists across 14 states.

Miller was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1949. He moved to Spokane in 1966, attended Spokane Falls Community College, taking one year of liberal arts and three years of fine art. He has been a professional artist, painting full-time since 1973. He works primarily in watercolor and egg tempera. Miller has become internationally known, having won numerous awards. Stan also teaches classes and workshops in watercolor around the world.

In 1983, a small group of watercolorists met in Missoula and asked each other why Montana did not have an organization just for watermedia artists. Out of this meeting, the Montana Watercolor Society was formed.

The preview reception will be from 5-7 p.m. Miller will announce awards and give a talk at 5:30 pm. Admission is $10.

The museum is located at 302 Second Ave. E. in Kalispell.
