As recovery efforts continue following the destructive December flood and wind events that impacted Lincoln County, two local fire departments have received funding to strengthen emergency response capabilities and community preparedness.

Libby Area Community Advancement (LACA), a recently established nonprofit organization working to support economic vitality and community well-being throughout the Libby area announced grant assistance for both the Libby and Troy volunteer fire departments.

The grants are part of a broader community recovery initiative made possible by a $250,000 contribution from the W.R. Grace Foundation, which was provided to assist local recovery and rebuilding efforts following the December disaster.

Community leaders continue to evaluate additional projects and needs as recovery work progresses.

The Libby Volunteer Fire Department was awarded $38,000 to assist in the purchase of a new vehicle, helping enhance the department’s ability to respond to emergencies and meet the needs of area residents.

“On behalf of the Libby Volunteer Fire Department and the entire community of South Lincoln County, we would like to offer a sincere thank you to W.R. Grace and the Libby Area Community Advancement Committee for making the funding available for the extrication vehicle that will assure a continued emergency preparedness for vehicle crashes and rescue situations,” stated

Steve Lauer, LiVFD Chief. “Your generous donation has a direct impact on financial budgets and quality emergency response.”

The Troy Fire Department received $10,622.90 for the purchase and installation of a backup power supply. The project will help ensure emergency operations can continue during power outages and other critical situations.

DJ Welch, TVFD Chief added, “This funding of a generator and installation will assist our volunteers in being able to respond to our community needs when we experience emergencies.”

These two grants represent some of the first recovery-focused investments made by LACA and additional recovery projects are currently being considered as community leaders continue evaluating needs.

“These projects provide lasting benefits for our communities and help ensure our first responders have the equipment and infrastructure they need to serve residents effectively,” said Bruce Vincent, LACA President. “We’re grateful for the support of the W.R. Grace Foundation and proud to support organizations that play such a vital role in community safety."
