KELLOGG — The Sandpoint Bulldogs couldn’t keep up with an undefeated Kellogg Wildcats team on Wednesday night, falling in the nonleague match in three sets (23-25, 21-25, 18-26).
Sandpoint was led by a duo of sophomore Ali Gunter and senior Marlee Lane. Gunter totaled a team-high 13 kills and 10 digs, while Lane added 11 kills on a .476 percentage to power the Bulldog offense to two close sets against the Wildcats.
“It was the best matchup team we’ve played this year,” Sandpoint head coach Karen Alsager said. “We did some good things but struggled with some pin hitting. It was a very fun match to play.”
At the net, Sandpoint’s freshman Brooklyn Lacy had a breakout performance with two complete blocks and another three in the first set that didn’t score points. Alsager said she provides a solid presence in the front row and is improving every single match.
On the defensive side, sophomore Hailey Gion tied Gunter with a team-leading 10 digs. Fellow sophomore Darby Rust provided three aces from the serving line as well.
Last weekend, the Bulldogs also traveled to Spokane to play in the Linda Sheridan Classic volleyball tournament. At the marathon tournament, Sandpoint went 2-1-1, beating Ferris 2-1 and Clarkston in a 2-0 sweep, tying with Mead and falling to Freeman 2-0.
That flurry of games leaves the Sandpoint record at 6-9-1 on the season. The Bulldogs will close out their 2026 campaign with three more league games, first heading to Moscow for a rematch with the Bears on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
Sandpoint will play its final home game against rival Lakeland on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m., before it ends the regular season Oct. 15 at Lewiston at 7 p.m.
