Sandpoint Trailblazers post strong day at Copper Kings Clash

The Sandpoint Trailblazers cross-country mountain bike team came home with strong results after the Copper Kings Clash race in Butte, Montana, last weekend.

The racers competed on a new race course just introduced this season: short, punchy climbs and tight gravely downhills.

“I remember my end goal when racing gets tough: to get a podium and come out on top,” Levi Coffman said.

Coffman is a JV1 rider going on his 5th year racing this season, and he currently holds 4th place overall for his category. Coffman motivates other riders not to “give up if there is a bad result, just keep pushing towards your goals. Keep riding.”

A teammate of Coffman, Emiliana Dussault competed in the 7th/8th grade girls competition.

“The teamwork with the other riders, and the environment and support really makes racing amazing for me,” Dussault said. “The hardest part about the race was keeping my pace for two laps and leaving a little bit of energy for the second lap.”

Overall, six of the eighteen Sandpoint Trailblazers that competed achieved podium finishes, and five finished in the top ten.
