MOSCOW, Idaho — The Vandals just pulled the shocker of the season.

Winless Idaho scored a touchdown on the final play of the game and converted a two-point conversion to defeat No. 1 Montana State Friday at the Kibbie Dome.

The Vandals (1-4 overall, 1-1 in Big Sky games) took possession down seven with 49 seconds left and drove 80 yards to earn the first victory over a No. 1 ranked team in school history.

Joshua Wood completed a pass to Noah West-Baranco at the 25 and initially time expired on the clock, but officials added one second back on and Montana State coach Brent Vigen then raced down the sideline to call a timeout.

With the final play, Wood found a wide-open Ryan Jezioro in the end zone for a touchdown that cut the Bobcat lead to 34-33.

Idaho coach Thomas Ford Jr. then made the decision to go for the win.

Wood stepped up to avoid a sack and found his way through the defense to score the winning conversion as students stormed the field.

The loss for Montana State (5-1, 2-1 in conf.) snaps a school record 19-game winning streak for the Bobcats and is the first loss since they fell to South Dakota State in Week 2 of 2025.

Wood finished with 315 yards through the air and two touchdowns.

Montana State was without quarterback Justin Lamson and receiver Taco Dowler for the second straight week.

Florence product Pat Duchien stepped up again in Lamson's stead, throwing for 249 yards and rushing for 92 more.

Gallatin graduate Carter Dahlke had 10 catches for 126 yards and one touchdown to lead the Bobcats wideouts.

The teams went back-and-forth in the first half with six lead changes in the opening 30 minutes. Montana State took a 24-20 lead into the half and extended it in the third after Myles Sansted was true from 26 yards on a field goal.

Duchien ran into the end zone from two yards out to make it 34-20 at 13:29 of the fourth quarter.

Wood answered with his own rushing score on the next Idaho drive to make it a 34-27 game.

Sansted missed a 52-yarder that would have iced the game with 3:22 left.

Montana State now heads into a bye week before another road game on Oct. 17 in Cheney, Wash. against Eastern Washington.
