A Fernwood man died in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 3 on Friday.

According to the Idaho State police, a 2018 Ram pickup driven by a 57-year-old male from St. Maries was stopped about 4:45 p.m. in the northbound lane with the intention to turn west onto Sportsman Road.

An 86-year-old man from Fernwood driving a 2022 Honda Ridgeline was northbound behind the Ram pickup and entered the southbound lane around the pickup. While doing so, the Ridgeline collided head-on with a southbound 2026 Kenworth semi-truck driven by a 48-year-old man from Deary, ISP said.

The initial collision pushed the Ridgeline into the Ram pickup. The driver of the Ridgeline died at the scene.

The driver of the Ridgeline and the Ram were both wearing seat belts. It is unknown if the driver of the semi-truck was wearing his, ISP said.

The roadway was closed for about 3.5 hours.

An investigation continues.
