Herndon's pattern: power first, honesty never
Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 1 day, 8 hours AGO
Last spring, Herndon authored the "Official Republican Voter Guide" for Bonner and Boundary counties. Despite Boundary County’s policy to not endorse in primaries, he used that gap to self-endorse, gave his opponent an F, and spent $66,000 of Bonner Committee funds doing it.
He sent his five daughters door-to-door with a script claiming Woodward voted to raise taxes. No such vote existed. On Facebook, he claimed Woodward's fix for the YMCA pool situation was "a tent on the pool deck" — a total fabrication.
Now he's promising to make Idaho the first state to eliminate property taxes, claiming you'll never own your home while "paying rent to the government." But ask who benefits: resort communities like Sandpoint carry a disproportionate share of second-home owners, many out-of-state, who'd stop paying too. That's no coincidence — Herndon has ties to the Idaho Freedom Foundation, funded by outside money with its own agenda for Idaho. Johnson's approach is the opposite: an adjustment to the homeowner's exemption that delivers real relief to primary homeowners who live here. Johnson answers to just the people of this district.
Herndon's actions serve his own ambition, and certainly not the truth.
I've watched Steve Johnson work up close. What stands out is simple: he tells the truth even when a lie would be easier. He's running to serve this district, not win at any cost.
Integrity matters. On November 3, vote for someone who tells the truth. Vote Steve Johnson.
