Wilson, Thompson lead Montana Tech past Dakota State

MADISON, S.D. — Northwest Montana products were all over the field for Montana Tech on Saturday. 


Polson product Jarrett Wilson had a hand in three touchdowns and former Flathead standout Anders Thompson punched in two 1-yard scores to lead No. 6 Montana Tech over No. 22 Dakota State 33-21 in Frontier Conference football.  


Wilson completed 20 of 30 passes for 256 yards and added 47 yards on the ground. Levi Torgerson hauled in 10 passes for 104 yards for the Orediggers (5-1 overall, 1-0 in East Division).  


Tech built a 20-7 lead late in the first half before Dakota State (4-2, 0-1) started to claw back. Grant VanDenHul scored on a 44-yard pass as time expired in the second quarter, then Jevon Denis added a 3-yard score in the third to give the Trojans a 21-20 lead. 


The Orediggers answered in the final quarter. Wilson found Torgerson for a 42-yard touchdown to put Tech back in front 26-21. Wilson put the game away in the final minute with a 2-yard rushing score.  


Tech’s defense recorded four interceptions and four sacks while holding the Trojans to just 18 yards on the ground. 


Rocky Mountain 31, Valley City State 24


BILLINGS — Jhett Schwahn connected with Javonte King for a 5-yard touchdown with 19 seconds remaining as Rocky Mountain escaped with a win. 


King caught 10 passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns for the Bears (2-3, 1-0).  Schwahn completed 19 of 29 passes for 204 yards and three scores.  


The Vikings (1-4, 0-1) finished with 442 yards, erased a 20-3 deficit and took a 24-23 lead with 4:11 remaining on Jonathan Hunter’s 3-yard touchdown run.  


Rocky answered with a 63-yard drive in the final two minutes that was capped by King’s third touchdown catch. Ty Battle rushed for 45 yards and a score, while Reid Chauvin added 49 yards on 11 carries.  


Southern Oregon 28, Montana Western 27


DILLON — Fresh Ison scored on a 35-yard run with 51 seconds remaining, and Western missed a 61-yard field goal as time expired to fall to Southern Oregon. 


Kaden LaPlaunt threw for 244 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs (2-3, 0-1) and Eli Nourse caught 13 passes for 145 yards and a score. Aidan Lammers added two rushing touchdowns.  


Former Mission standout Canyon Sargent recorded five tackles, while Thompson Falls product Bryson LeCoure added a tackle for Western.  


Southern Oregon (2-3, 1-0) finished with 507 yards of offense, including 322 through the air. Dom Montiel completed 25 of 38 passes for 311 yards and a touchdown. Ison led the Raiders on the ground with 90 yards on 11 carries. 


Carroll College 73, Arizona Christian 0


HELENA — Peter Minnaert rushed for three touchdowns as the No. 13 Saints rolled past the Firestorm. 


Kaden Huot completed 8 of 12 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns for the Saints (3-1, 1-0), who scored 31 points in the first quarter and led 52-0 at halftime. 


Former Glacier standout Connor Sullivan added 35 return yards for Carroll, while Columbia Falls product Kai Golan recorded 10 touchbacks on 12 kickoffs. 


College of Idaho 56, Simpson 14


CALDWELL, Idaho — The No. 1 ranked Coyotes rushed for 421 yards and Rylie Byington scored four touchdowns to defeat the Red Hawks. 


Caden Young added 146 yards and two scores for the College of Idaho (5-0, 1-0). Ryken EchoHawk recorded 73 yards and a score as the Yotes finished with 521 yards of offense. 


Former Eureka standout Caleb Utter recorded five tackles and one catch for Simpson (2-2, 0-1).
