Joyce Marie Parenteau, 83, of Libby, Montana, passed away peacefully at her home on Sept. 27, 2026, following a short battle with lung cancer.

She was surrounded by love with her son and daughter-in-law by her side.

Joyce was born on Sept. 15, 1943, in Malta, Montana, to Robert and Florence Jones. She was the 11th of 13 children.

Growing up in a large family, Joyce learned the value of hard work at an early age. After completing the eighth grade, she began working to help her parents support their family. Throughout her life, she worked in numerous restaurants and motels, where her strong work ethic and outgoing personality served her well.

In 1965, Joyce married Frank L. Erickson, who was serving in the United States Air Force. His military service took them to several states across the country and even to Okinawa, Japan. Their marriage ended in 1980.

In 1982, Joyce married her childhood friend, Donald Parenteau. Together, they shared 44 loving years of marriage, filled with cherished memories, camping trips, family reunions and time spent with loved ones.

Joyce had a passion for baking and was especially talented at making cakes. Over the years, she lovingly created countless wedding and birthday cakes for family and friends, adding her special touch to many memorable celebrations. She also enjoyed crafting and was known for her creativity and the many handmade treasures she shared with others.

Above all, Joyce will be remembered for her quick wit, warm smile and wonderful sense of humor. She always seemed to have a good joke ready and could bring laughter to those around her. To many of her nieces and nephews, she was affectionately known as “Auntie Nuts,” a nickname that reflected her fun-loving personality and the special place she held in their hearts.

Joyce was preceded in death by her two sons, Robert and Frank Erickson; her eight brothers and her four sisters. She was the last surviving member of the 13 Jones children.

She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Donald Parenteau of Libby; her son, Tom Erickson (Kris) of Libby; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews throughout the country.

In accordance with Joyce’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A celebration of her life will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at the Libby City Hall in the Ponderosa Room.

Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories and celebrate a life filled with love, laughter and unforgettable moments. Joyce’s wit, laughter and love for her family will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
