A Libby man is in custody on $100,000 bail after accusations he assaulted a woman and her two young children during a domestic dispute.

William Ian Wood, 24, is scheduled to be arraigned on three felony charges Monday, Oct. 5 in Lincoln County District Court. They include two counts of assault on a minor and one for strangulation of a partner or family member, first offense.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, county deputy Carl Holcomb, he was at a residence on Rustic Avenue for a domestic violence call when he heard a scream for help from a nearby residence and saw a woman run from the house.

The deputy caught up to the woman who told him she was assaulted by Wood. She also said the accused struck her 30-month old with a large spoon and assaulted a 10-year-old child. The older child said Wood placed his knee on her back, causing pain, the charging document said.

The mother said when she tried to prevent Wood from assaulting her kids, he attacked her and put his fingers down her throat on repeated occasions. She said she couldn’t breath for several seconds before she forced him away from her both times. This was allegedly done in the presence of the children.

Deputy Holcomb reported when he interviewed the mother, she had a bleeding cut on her mouth, had a fresh bruise on her head and the alleged victim said her throat hurt. The deputy said her voice appeared to be more raspy than in his prior interactions with the woman.

The woman also said Wood previously abused her and the kids. She also showed deputy Holcomb photos of bruises on the younger child, which allegedly occurred during prior abuse. She said she was dating Wood, but the kids were not his.

Holcomb found Wood outside the house, read him his Miranda rights and detained the defendant. Wood did not say anything.

The deputy also reported that Wood had no prior charges for family member assault or strangulation.

Court records indicate Daniel Wood will defend the accused while county attorney Marcia Boris will prosecute the case.

A conviction for strangulation and assault on a minor under the age of 14 years may result in imprisonment for up to five years. A conviction for assault on a minor under 3 years of age may result in imprisonment for up to 10 years. Fines of up to $50,000 are possible on each count.
