Phyllis Kay “PK” Casperson, 93, passed away Sept. 28, 2026, in Libby, Montana.

Kay was born in Bismark, North Dakota on July 12,1933, to Phillip and Kamilla (Fosmark) Ebeltoft.

Her family lived in Dunn Center until her parents both perished in Lake Ida after Kamilla, who could not swim, fell out of their boat and Phillip tried to rescue her. She and her younger brother, Al, (preceded in death in 2018) moved to Douglas, North Dakota to be raised by her maternal grandparents, Carl and Ella (Rialson) Fosmark.

She graduated as Valedictorian from Douglas High School in 1951. After high school, she taught in a one-room school at Centerville Country School in Ryder, North Dakota from 1951 to 1953. She then headed west to Teaching College at Western Montana College in Dillon, Montana.

She met Charles Robert “Bob” Casperson in 1955 in Dillon while he was visiting his parents before heading to the great white north and adventure of Alaska. They fell head over heels in love. In 1956 she flew to Nome and married Bob without knowing anyone else in the remote Alaska town.

They started their family in 1957 and after bearing four children, they moved first to Glasgow, Montana for a couple of years, then Bob was hired by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Pickstown, South Dakota as a hydro-electric power plant operator, transferring to Riverdale, North Dakota after a short six-month stay in South Dakota. They remained in Riverdale for 10 years, at which time they packed up and moved to Libby for the remainder of their lives. Bob retired from Libby Dam, Corps of Engineers in 1991.

Kay successfully “worked” as a mother and homemaker everywhere they lived. She played piano and organ for the churches she belonged to. In Nome, she was a Girl Scout Leader and in Riverdale, she gave piano lessons, in addition to raising her family.

In Libby she worked at Christ Lutheran Church in the office for seven years, a job she said she enjoyed the most. She was an active member of the ELCW, Circle, and any church function she could support. She loved and fully supported her family, her church, loved bird watching, cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, quilting and was a voracious reader.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband in 2020; her parents and grandparents; her brother Al; and many friends.

She is survived by her son Charles “Cap” (Lori) Casperson of Saint Cloud, Florida, grandson Jared (Cassandra), great-granddaughters Arianna and Mia of Kissimmee, Florida, granddaughter Erin (Tim) Ayuso, great-grandsons Travis and Eli of Clovis, California; son Karl Casperson of Idaho Falls, Idaho, grandson Braiden, granddaughter Makenna, great-granddaughter Adaline “Adi”, grandson Kelson (Cybil), granddaughter Alyvia (Sean) Storms of Sheridan, Wyoming, grandson Keaton, grandson Garrison, and granddaughter Blaiklee; son Olaf “Kurt” (Judy) Casperson of West Hartford, Connecticut, granddaughter Brieanna (Grant) Peabody, great granddaughters Sawyer and Fallon of West Hartford, Connecticut, granddaughter TaraLynn (Sam) Reinhart, great granddaughter Wilhelmina of Oceanside, California; and daughter Karin (Paul) Bache; grandson Chris (Tracy) Bache, great-grandsons Bridger, Parker, and Mason, grandson Jason (Britani) Bache, all of Libby, great-grandsons Gaige (Alyssa) of Bozeman, Montana, and Urijah of Libby.

She truly lived a full, productive life and she will be missed terribly by her family and friends.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2026, at Christ Lutheran Church in Libby, Montana.
