Columbia Falls girls’ soccer team had a mixed week going 1-0-1.  They easily defeated the Browning Lady Indians 10-0 on Thursday.  Despite a tough fight against the Lady Bulldogs from Whitefish on Saturday, the match would ultimately end in a tie between the two rivals with a score of 1-1.

Against Browning, Piper Holm led the Wildcats in scoring by finding the back of the net twice.  Audriana Nagel scored and had an assist, while Andie Holm would do the same.

“Browning is building a program, and they continue to get better every time we see them.  On our end of things, I was proud of how the girls approached the game, and it was awesome to get some players their first varsity goals,” said coach Thomas Clark.

The matchup of the week would be against the Whitefish Bulldogs for Homecoming on Saturday.  The last time these two teams met at the dog park the Cats fell to the Dawgs 1-0.  Looking for a chance at redemption and with the conference title on the line, the Cats were in it for the win.

After a scoreless first half, Columbia Falls would strike first at 13 minutes into the second half of the game when Ella Robbins would put the Cats on the board with help from fellow teammate June Johnston.  Whitefish would answer back, though, after Sage Ordway responded with one of her at the 72-minute mark.  From there, neither team could break the tie.

“The girls fought incredibly hard in the game.  We gave ourselves a chance to win at the end, and we came up just short.  Ultimately, I’m just proud of them for how they competed,” said Clark.

Cats’ Goalkeeper Medora Dahlstrom made an impressive seven saves during the afternoon match, while Marlis Nargi from Whitefish managed to make 3.  Columbia Falls committed 7 fouls in the contest, compared to Whitefish’s 5.

The Cats played Plains/ Thompson Falls on Tuesday and won 8-0. Like the boys, they had to forfeit their last game against Libby.

The focus is now on the postseason, as the Cats will travel to Hamilton, the top team in the south.

“At this point in the season, you still have to handle everything with a one game at a time approach.  But starting next week, we will be working diligently on where we need to improve and how we need to improve.  How we need to prepare tactically for each playoff opponent,” said Clark.

If the Cats can beat the Broncs on the road, they’d have home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

A time and date hasn’t been set for that game yet.
