THOMPSON FALLS - Look who is 5-1 and on the cusp of one of the best regular seasons in modern day Blue Hawk football history.

The Thompson Falls Blue Hawks never let the Kellogg Wildcats in the game and scored a convincing 41-0 win over their Idaho foes in the 2026 TFHS homecoming game at Previs Field Friday. The Blue Hawks have not had this good of a record this late in the season since the undefeated State 8-Man championship campaign of 2021.

Sitting at 1-1 in conference play with three Western B 11-Man games left on the regular season schedule, coach Jared Koskela and the Hawks travel to Deer Lodge Friday for the first of those three with the winless Powell County Wardens. The Wardens lost to No. 1 Florence last week.

Koskela has watched the Wardens on tape. “They have some players, I look for them to be competitive.” Koskela has another winning streak in mind after falling to Florence two weeks ago to snap a four-game win streak to start the season.

“We’re 1-0 again, want to be 2-0 and will take it one game at a time each game from there,” he said. After Friday’s game in Deer Lodge, the Hawks will wrap up the regular season hosting Loyola Oct. 16 and Eureka Oct. 23 in games crucial to Thompson Falls playoff hopes.

The Hawks, after fumbling away their first possession Friday, soon got their offense going later on in the first quarter and got on the scoreboard first when quarterback Brylon VanElswyk scored on a 53-yard keeper play.

Later in the first quarter, VanElswyk fielded a Kellogg punt, popped through the line of defense and dashed down the middle of the field for a 43-yard punt return touchdown.

Brandon Laird added the point-after kick following the first touchdown and Michael Koskela the two-point conversion after the second to give the Hawks a 15-0 lead.

Carson Kenney (on a 17-yard run) and Jason Myers (off a 55-yard catch-and-run pass from VanElswyk) scored touchdowns in the second quarter and the Hawks went into halftime leading comfortably 28-0.

Kenney and Myers both added touchdowns in the second half for the final scoring in the game. Both of Myers’ TDs came after short pass catches from VanElswyk and long dashes after that, the second covering 85 yards.

VanElswyk finished the game four of five passing for 174 yards and two touchdowns besides rushing the ball four times for 62 yards and a TD and returning the punt for another score. Kenney carried the ball 11 times for 96 yards and two scores, and Myers caught three passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns.

Baird added 32 yards combined rushing and receiving and three extra-point kicks, Michael Koskela eight yards rushing and Gage Park 20 yards on three carries rushing.

Riley Reum recorded seven punk blocks, Jacobe Wood five and Wyatt Brotherton two.

Defensively, Michael Koskela, last week’s Western B defensive player of the week (for the second time this season for his standout game against Florence) again led the Hawks, this time with 12 total tackles, including six solo and two for loss, Owen Franck (another recent defensive POW) added seven tackles with two unassisted and one for loss, Kenney six with three unassisted, Baird four with three unassisted and Reum four with one solo.

Myers, Tristan Kelly and Jesse Buchanan added three total tackles each, and Kelly and Laird both had interceptions against Kellogg.

The 41-0 win represented the Thompson Falls defense’s second shutout win of the season.
