RATHDRUM — Senior Kate Moglia totaled 43 assists, 16 digs, four kills and two aces as the visiting Lake City Timberwolves beat the Lakeland Hawks 25-17, 26-24, 27-29, 25-20 on Tuesday night at Hawk Court.
Camryn Woodman added 23 kills, 14 digs and three aces for Lake City (19-8). Ella Jeanselme had 10 kills, 17 digs, four aces and a block, and Sonia-Rei Fong had 42 digs.
"We had to dig deep to finish this one," Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. "I’m proud that we’re finding the grit to gut out these tight games, but Lakeland played extremely tough with a solid block, and an offense that consistently finds a way to score."
Senior Jolie Warren had 20 kills, senior Kindell Day 15 assists for Lakeland (12-12) on senior night. Jaeli Hoffman added 20 assists and two aces, Emma Beaty 21 digs, Shasta Ackerman 16 digs, Anabel Bowie five blocks.
"Our seniors played aggressively tonight and put up a great fight against a very scrappy team," Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. "We struggled to find a consistent rhythm and had some unforced errors in crucial moments that ultimately made the difference. I’m proud of how our girls continued to battle and compete until the end. Jolie had a season high in kills. Kindell also made some huge defensive plays to keep rallies alive and gave us opportunities to fight back. There’s still plenty to clean up, but I’m proud of the fight, effort, and competitiveness our girls showed tonight."
"It was special to get to be here for Kindell and Jolie’s senior night," said Kleinberg, who coached both of them in club volleyball years ago. "We look forward to celebrating our seniors on Thursday."
On Thursday, Lake City plays host to 6A Inland Empire League-leading Post Falls, and Lakeland, leading the 5A IEL, travels to Lewiston.
