Questions rise after commissioner directs removal of county meeting from YouTube

SANDPOINT — After a Bonner County commissioner allegedly ordered a recording of a public meeting to be scrubbed from the county's YouTube channel, some community members are speculating about its removal and the potential motives behind it.

At the time of publishing, the recording of the Oct. 6, 2026, business meeting has not been made public on the county's YouTube channel.

Speculation is swirling on social media over the reasoning for the meeting being made private, a direction Commissioner Asia Williams said in a Facebook post that was given to county IT staff by Commissioner Ron Korn.

"I've received inquiries into today's business meeting noting that the business meeting has been removed from the County website. I received information from technology that they received an instruction from Commissioner Korn to make the video private. The video is going to be restored to Bonner County website per legal," Williams wrote in a Facebook post on Oct. 6.

On that same Facebook post, Williams commented, "Legal has rendered an opinion to commissioner Korn that if he wants the video removed from the County website that he needs to put it on an agenda item for the entire board to vote on. The video has NOT been restored to the County website. There has Not been a board vote to remove the video."

Neither Korn nor Williams have responded to inquiries from the Daily Bee.

Further comments under Williams' Facebook post suggest the removal may be connected to a public comment made by Dan and Diane Welle, who shared, and later published online, documents of a report that was made earlier this summer, regarding Jeff Roberts, a candidate for the District 2 county commission seat.

The Bonner County Board of Commissioners' meetings are generally streamed and archived online for public viewing. It remains unclear when the Oct. 6 recording will be restored or whether the issue will be placed on a future agenda for board discussion.

The Daily Bee has requested clarification from county officials regarding who directed the video to be made private, when the decision was made, and whether the recording will be restored in full.
