Sports roundup: Vikings notch first football win, volleyball adds sweeps

LIBBY — Rye Rodriguez found the end zone three different ways as Bigfork picked up its first win of the season. 

Rodriguez returned a kickoff 63 yards for a touchdown, caught a 19-yard touchdown pass and added a 12-yard rushing score as the Vikings (1-4, 1-1) rolled past Libby. 

Alex Ochs threw three touchdown passes, connecting with Wyatt Daken, Rodriguez and Cavin Wiest. Quinn Kerr added a 57-yard touchdown run, while Cooper Porrovecchio returned an interception 60 yards for a score. 

Quinten Cossins scored the lone touchdown for the Loggers (1-4, 0-2).

Volleyball keeps streak going

Bigfork volleyball swept Polson for another conference win in what has been an impressive season on the court.

The Valkyries were led by Somer Campos and Raegan Waller, each crushing 10 kills in the win. Campos added 7 blocks for her outstanding outing. 

Junior Sophia Lowell accounted for 12 digs to lead the team, while senior Emily Wisman put up a pair of aces.

Bigfork moved to 11-4 overall and 8-1 in the conference heading into another important battle with Whitefish on Oct. 13.

Earlier in the week, the Valkyries took care of Libby, 3-0. Wisman put in four aces, with Payton Despain adding three.

The team plays in the Blocktober Tournament in Butte on Thursday.

Golf

Bigfork's Keegan Campbell carded a two-day total of 180 (84-96) to finish in the top 15 of the girls golf State A championship at Marias Valley Golf and Country Club in Shelby. The tie for 12th gives her All-State honors.

The Whitefish girls took the team championship by 35 shots over Lewistown at a 710 total. Corvallis beat out Polson for third by eight shots.

Soccer

Bigfork's boys soccer team took out Thompson Falls 5-0 last week to improve to 4-5-1 overall. The final marked the Vikings' fourth consecutive win. The team travels to Whitefish on Thursday.

The Valkyries also took down Thompson Falls in a shutout, winning 2-0 with a pair of goals in the second half.
