On Aug. 21, 2026, our beloved Melodie Jean Smith Rowan, 74, passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a family and community heartbroken by her sudden loss.

Melodie was born in Los Angeles on Sept. 13, 1951, to Jack and Paula Smith. She spent her early years in Los Angeles before moving to Placerville around middle school.

It was there that Melodie made one of the lifelong friendships that meant so much to her. Her best friend, Phyllis Prangley, was by her side through the years. They celebrated nearly every birthday together, sharing countless memories and a friendship that lasted a lifetime. Phyllis was with Melodie until the very end.

In high school, Melodie met Charlie Bennett, whom she later married. During his military service, they moved from California to Florida, where they began raising their family. They eventually returned to California and settled in Shingle Springs.

Melodie lived in several places throughout her life, including Arizona and Montana, but wherever she lived, she made connections and memories that stayed with her.

Anyone who knew Melodie knew she loved cards. She worked professionally as a card dealer and truly enjoyed the game. She was also a regular at her senior citizens' pinochle club, where she played weekly alongside dear friends.

Melodie loved dressing up and made every occasion an opportunity to look her best. Her hair colors were part of her signature - sometimes you could tell how she was feeling simply by looking at her hair. She was colorful, spirited, and completely herself.

Melodie was also a lifetime member of the Moose and earned full honors as a Past Senior Regent, including cap and gown. The Moose family held a special place in her heart, and she cherished the friendships she made there.

Later in life, Melodie married Larry Rowan, and together they raised Desi and Tristan. Melodie became a cherished part of their lives.

For the last 10 years, Melodie shared her life with Myron Beck. They were inseparable, truly like two peas in a pod. Their love, companionship, and the life they shared was deeply special.

Melodie leaves behind her children, Brandie, Britt, Darric, Triston, and Desiree; 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Jacqueline Rittenhouse, Tim Smith, and Paula Renolds.

Melodie will be remembered for her laughter, colorful spirit, love of cards, unforgettable style, and the many memories she shared with family and friends. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

The family greatly appreciates your love and support through these times.
