EPHRATA — No injuries were reported in a dispute that ended in a shooting at an apartment complex in northeast Ephrata Thursday evening.
The incident was reported at about 6 p.m., said Rob Miller, public information officer for the city of Ephrata.
Miller said the motive for the incident was not known as of Thursday night.
“Two suspect vehicles were identified, a red four-door Subaru and a black Jeep. Witnesses reported the two vehicles going through the apartment complex at that location,” Miller wrote in a city press release. “Subsequently, residents of one of the apartments exited their apartment and an altercation occurred, during which at least one shot was fired. Both the occupants of the vehicles and the occupants of the apartment wore masks at the time.”
The driver of the Subaru fled the scene, turning on Linda Ridge Loop and colliding head-on with a vehicle not involved in the shooting incident, Miller said.
“Both vehicles were seriously damaged (in the collision), and the occupant of the uninvolved car appears uninjured. The suspects in the Subaru exited their vehicle and got into the Jeep, which then fled the scene,” Miller said.
A vehicle matching the description of the Jeep was stopped by Quincy Police officers a short time later, he said. Five people were detained.
“While vehicles were damaged and it was certainly frightening, everyone being able to go home to their families is the important thing,” Miller said.
Witnesses to the incident are being asked to contact MACC Dispatch, 509-762-1160, if they have any information.
“Our officers and City Administration appreciate the efforts of our law enforcement partners in resolving tonight’s situation,” Miller said. “While the investigation is ongoing, the fast apprehension of suspects with the assistance of Quincy PD is truly appreciated.”

No decisions made on possible Ephrata School District bond
EPHRATA — Ephrata School District patrons will have one more chance to express their opinions on a possible district construction bond in a “listening session” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Ephrata Middle School Library. Ephrata Superintendent Ken Murray said district officials will use the information gathered from community discussions to determine their recommendation on a possible bond to the Ephrata School Board. District voters rejected a $75 million, 25-year construction bond proposal in February 2026. Murray said he started talking with ESD patrons in early March in an effort to determine what the community would – and could – accept in a bond proposal, if district officials decide to try again. “I tried to get out and find out where the community was at,” Murray said.
