Two poetry gatherings are planned at the Whitefish Community Library, featuring Montana Poet Laureate Mark Gibbons and a documentary on Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Mary Oliver Oct. 9 and 23.

On Oct. 9, Gibbons will share his 14th collection of poetry, "Word Salad." In addition to serving as a poet laureate from 2021-23, Gibbons is the 2013 recipient of the Montana Arts Council's Artist Innovation Award.

“Mark Gibbon’s poetry leads me back from the digital-dominated world to a living, breathing, earthbound self we are all perilously close to losing. I feel more alive and more connected to the world when reading Gibbons’ poems,” Whitefish author Antonia Malchik said.

The documentary, "Saved by the Beauty of the World" will be shown during the Oct. 23 gathering. The documentary celebrates the life, work and legacy of Oliver.

Both events are free and start at 6 p.m. in the library community room. The library is located at 9 Spokane Ave., Whitefish.
