SANDPOINT — For what is believed to be the first time in school history, three Sandpoint High School teams have earned Academic State Championship honors in one semester.

The championship is awarded by the Idaho High School Activities Association to the varsity team that achieves the highest grade point average in that state. Sandpoint’s boys soccer team, girls golf and girls cross country teams won the championships for the 2026 fall semester.

“This is the first time that we believe that we've had three teams,” Lake Pend Oreille School District Superintendent Dr. Becky Meyer said during a Chamber of Commerce meeting Thursday. “That is amazing.”

The boys soccer team finished with a 3.669 GPA, their first academic championship under head coach Dan Anderson, he said. The girls cross country team totaled a near-perfect 3.979, with girls golf not far behind with a 3.917 GPA.
