May 6, 1957– Oct. 7, 2026

While at home and surrounded by loved ones, David Michael May, 69, of Bigfork passed into eternity with Jesus on Oct. 7, 2026.

David was known for a life spent faithfully serving others with integrity and selfless love. He was a devoted husband, a dad to seven children, and the proud "Papa" of 17 grandchildren. David was passionate about his church and dedicated many years to serving as deacon, treasurer, and bookkeeper. He found happiness in time with family, raising animals, gardening, hunting, and being outdoors.

David spent his entire career in food service, and he was proud of the businesses he built, especially Schafer's Restaurant. But for David, it was about much more than quality food and a pleasant dining experience. He cared deeply about his staff and about meeting people's needs. He will be remembered for the way he loved others and always made time to help those in need, whether they were family, friends, co-workers, or complete strangers.

David is survived by his bride of 49 years, Deborah; his children, Rebekah (Jason) Cloninger, Nathan May, Leah (Tim) Cloninger, Jonathan May, Tabitha (Brenden) May-Overseth, Susannah May, and Josiah (Tayler) May; his parents, Lynwood and Carol May; his siblings, Karen Orr, Susan (John) Glau, and Jeffrey (Linda) May; his in-laws, Eric (Barbara) Erickson, Earl Erickson, and Cristi Erickson; and 17 beloved grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jim Orr.

David has found the peace that passes all understanding and is now pain-free in the presence of the Lord.

A celebration of David's life will be held at 4 p.m. on Oct. 18 at the Bigfork Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bigfork Chapel Benevolence Fund online at bigforkchapel.org or by mail at 290 Swan Highway, Bigfork.
