Glacier National Park will close the Going-to-the-Sun Road from Avalanche Creek to Jackson Glacier Overlook at 7 p.m. tonight (Oct. 9) due to snow expected over the weekend.
Logan Pass could see 4 to 6 inches of snow by Monday morning, with snow showers starting tonight and heavier snow Saturday into Sunday, the National Weather Service is predicting.
The east side of the park will see the bulk of the snow, with 6 to 10 inches possible in St. Mary, as the storm could draw moisture up from the remnants of hurricane Rachel.
The west side will see far less, with perhaps a dusting in West Glacier and none expected in Columbia Falls.
It will get colder, however, with lows in the teens and 20s by Monday morning and highs in the 50s next week.
Monday should be sunny, but brisk, with a high about 50. The weather will warm into more fall-like upper to mid 50s next week. Temperatures have been in the upper 60s and 70s for the past week.
The Sun Road typically closes for the winter by mid-October at Logan Pass anyway.
