Where does the time go?

The Glacier Wolfpack are set to celebrate Senior Night Friday as they welcome in the Helena Bengals with just three games left in the regular season.

The Wolfpack sit at 5-1 overall and 4-0 in Western AA after a 42-10 victory over Missoula Sentinel last week. Helena is 3-3 and on a two-game losing skid, including a 29-27 defeat to Butte last Friday.

Despite the final scoreline, Sentinel held in with Glacier during the first half and coach Grady Bennett was pleased to see his team in a battle

“The guys had to come together and find some answers,” Bennett said. “We missed some tackles in the first half ... I was just happy with how the guys responded this week.”

The Spartans also broke a seven-game no-touchdown streak for the Wolfpack defense and Bennett expects his team to bounce back at home.

To slow down the Bengals, Glacier will need to limit the Silvonen brothers. Reece leads the offense at quarterback with 12 touchdown passes and is completing just under 70 percent of his passes.

Gracen Silvonen leads the receiving corps with 66.8 yards per game.

Tyse Todorovich has four receiving touchdowns for the Bengals.

On the ground, Brayden Garza has seven rushing scores on the year.

As for Glacier’s offense, it appears like things are meshing together nicely for Cash Keim and his offensive line.

“Cash is getting better game-by-game,” Bennett said. “Him and the receivers are working better together and understanding breaks and timing.

“Our O-line is starting to gel. It takes time for five guys to really start to gel.”

The rushing duo of Trey Ramey and Eli Imperato have combined for 16 touchdowns for Glacier (Ramey has nine).

In the passing game Cooper Pelc has 53.7 yards per game to lead the team.

New Montana commit Hunter Daniels is one of three Wolfpack receivers with two touchdown grabs along with Pelc and Peyton Johnson; Daniels has caught just four passes.

Glacier and Helena are set for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Legends Stadium with Senior Night festivities to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Braves look to get back on track in Butte

Many teams would crumble around a 3-game stretch of heartbreak like the Flathead Braves have had, but not Mac Roche’s bunch.

If not for a couple of plays the Braves could be entering Friday’s matchup with Butte 5-1 and a threat for the top seed in Western AA, instead of 3-3 overall and 1-3 in conference.

“The spirit is good,” Roche said. “Obviously it’s tough coming off the loss, but our kids have flushed it and are excited to head down to Butte.”

The Braves have another physical matchup ahead of them against a Butte team that downed Helena 29-27 last week for its first conference win.

“They are a tough group of kids,” Roche said of the Bulldogs.

Guiding the Butte offense is Raeder Grey, son of head coach Arie Grey. Raeder Grey has six touchdown passes and was 12 of 15 for 117 yards in the win over the Bengals.

Alongside Grey in the backfield is the aptly-named Miner Lee, who is averaging 70.7 yards per game on the ground and has found the end zone six times.

For the Braves, running back Leum Saisbury missed last week’s game against Helena Capital and is day-to-day with an injury according to Roche.

Brett Chivers took over the starting role last week and went for 71 yards on 17 carries with one touchdown.

At quarterback, league passing leader Bear Barker has 16 touchdowns to seven different receivers.

The Braves and Bulldogs are scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at Naranche Stadium in the Mining City.
