United States Attorney Bart M. Davis will retire effective Oct. 17.
President Donald Trump appointed Davis to the office in March 2025, and the U.S. Senate confirmed him in October. It was Davis's second turn as U.S. Attorney for the District of Idaho; he also served in the role from September 2017 to February 2021, during Trump's first term.
“I am unable to overstate the privilege it has been to work with the dedicated and remarkable women and men of the U.S. Attorney’s Office," Davis said in a news release. "These great lawyers and support staff faithfully enforce the law, work to keep Idaho and our country safe, support our law enforcement partners and protect the civil rights of others. I am proud of the work they do every day.”
As U.S. Attorney, Davis served as Idaho's top federal law enforcement official, with prosecutorial responsibility for 44 counties. He led three staffed offices in Boise, Coeur d’Alene, and Pocatello.
The office is responsible for prosecuting federal crimes in the district, including crimes related to immigration, terrorism, public corruption, child exploitation, firearms and narcotics. The office also defends the United States in civil cases and collects debts owed to the United States.
Under Davis's leadership, the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Idaho filed 298 criminal cases and charged 337 defendants in the past year. During his tenure, the office also filed or defended 355 civil cases and collected $9.2 million in money owed to the government from civil and criminal judgments.
“I continue to be grateful to Senator Michael D. Crapo and Senator James E. Risch for their continued confidence and trust," Davis said in a news release. "And I am particularly grateful to President Donald J. Trump for the opportunity to return as Idaho’s U.S. Attorney.”
