NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinal women rally past Colorado Northwestern

RANGELY, Colo. — Sophomores Madeline Cook and Hannah Rommes scored two goals each for North Idaho College, which scored six unanswered goals to power past Colorado Northwestern 6-2 in a Scenic West Athletic Conference match on Saturday. 

Cook scored in the 44th minute for NIC, which trailed 2-1 at halftime. 

NIC (8-4-3, 5-3-3 SWAC) hosts the College of Southern Idaho on Thursday at Eisenwinter Field. 

Colorado Northwestern is 3-9-1, 3-7-0.

RANGELY, Colo. — The Cardinals, ranked ninth in this week’s NJCAA poll, held the Spartans without a shot on goal in a Scenic West Athletic Conference win. 

“We played quite well today,” NIC coach Brad Williams said. “We’re excited to come home to Eisenwinter Field to host Southern Idaho on Thursday.” 

Sophomore Lennox Kern, freshman Dontae Logan and sophomore Rabi Helmand had goals for NIC, which hosts College of Southern Idaho on Thursday. 

Colorado Northwestern is 3-10, 2-8.

PRICE, Utah — Brynlie Cornia, a freshman from Nibley, Utah, had 13 kills and 13 digs for the Cardinals in a 22-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-20 loss to the Eagles in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. 

“The girls competed hard, but our serve receive was inconsistent and it made us predictable,” NIC coach Drew Pascua said. “They were able to set up their block well. We kept fighting but couldn’t close the gap. Back to the lab.” 

Daphne Neely, a sophomore from Lake City High, had 12 digs and three aces for NIC (18-8, 14-4 SWAC), which hosts Snow College on Friday and Saturday. 

Utah State-Eastern is 13-10, 6-2.
