In a perfect storybook ending to their high school soccer careers, all four seniors on the Thompson Falls-Plains boys soccer team scored goals as the Blue Hawks defeated the visiting Browning Indians 10-0 in Plains Friday.
“I was really glad that we were able to end up with a win for our last game,” coach Michael Scharfe said, “we came out a little slow but came together the second half and really got things going.”
With those seniors scoring, Liam Pallister led the way a hat trick effort of three goals against Browning and normally the keeper, Jacob Howell was turned loose on the field and scored two goals, which is referred to as scoring a brace.
Fellow seniors Nathaniel Palacios and Gideon Weingarden also scored goals, as did Talon Ferlan, Noah Scharfe and Kalen Chenoweth.
Caleb Hutchings, Clinton Weedeman, Howell, Pallister and Ferlan all had assists versus the Indians.
In other action last week, the Hawks played very well but fell 6-2 to Columbia Falls on Previs Field in Thompson Falls Oct. 6. The Hawks trailed the Wildcats, widely regarded as one of the best programs in the state year-in and year-out, only 1-0 at the half.
“Our boys definitely played one of their best games of the season,” Scharfe said. “They played aggressive and smart and we saw a huge improvement from the last time we played Columbia Falls.”
Hutchings and Ferlan scored the two goals for the Hawks against Columbia Falls and Koa Mackenzie and Weedeman had assists.
Developing a well-deserved reputation for his outstanding goalkeeping during his career, Howell finished the season with 131 saves, after making 136 in 2025, giving him a Montana state record of 267 saves for his career, Scharfe said.
Coach Scharfe is hopeful for the Hawk soccer program moving forward. “I have to say that the future of our soccer team is looking bright and I can’t wait to see how we keep
developing over the next few years,” he said, also thanking his seniors. “We will miss our seniors and all that they have done to help build our program, very proud of them and wish them nothing but the best.”
